Festive fairy delight at Banchory Lodge

Banchory Lodge received a visit from Fairy Princess Noelle and Fairy Prince Nicholas this week to the delight of all the children in attendance.

Phoenix Youth’s Nicole and Anya were on hand to guide the children through the enchanted forest walk, learn all about their favourite Christmas presents and lend a hand with all manner of crafts over hot chocolate and marshmallows.

If the smiles on the little faces were anything to go by, it kept the festive spirit going in the lead-up to Hogmanay.

Taking sides in the Battle of the Brits

There was no love lost this week, when tennis ace Jamie Murray hired Phoenix members to take sides in one of sport’s oldest and most celebrated rivalries - Scotland vs England.

When the Battle of the Brits came to Aberdeen’s P&J Arena in December 2022, Phoenix were served up to interact with the stars and public alike, as some historic greats from each side of the border. William Wallace, Queen Victoria, Robert the Bruce, Henry VIII and the rest of our winning set brought smiles to faces throughout the two days.

And we can forgive their obvious delight when Judy Murray came over to chat - even our directors admitted having a ‘fangirl’ moment.

Celebrating 30 Years and 50 Shows

Did you know that in early 2022, Phoenix Theatre presented our 50th show (not including those from Phoenix Youth)? That's 50 shows in 30 years.

To mark this achievement, Phoenix's Jonnie and Ian took it upon themselves to relive history in their own unique way - recreating moments from each and every musical or play, including most of the same costumes and some special guest stars from our current company.

So, step back in time and enjoy the history of Phoenix Theatre... so far!

A very merry Star Awards to you

All of us in the Phoenix Family would like to send our congratulations to a group of our young Phoenix Youth stars, who spent Friday evening meeting and greeting the guests at this year’s Aberdeen City Council Star Awards.

It was the first corporate entertainment experience for most of the group and they took it in their stride, like Alice falling down the rabbit hole. We’re certain it won’t be their last!

Giving our Greatest Show to the Jubilee crowds

It was definitely a day to remember, as crowds gathered all across the UK to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and Phoenix Theatre’s Corporate Entertainment team had the honour of being the grand finale at the Ballater celebrations, right in the heart of Royal Deeside.

With the sun blazing down and smiles on everyone’s faces, our performers showcased ‘The Greatest Show’ to the delight of everyone in attendance. Well done, team, and thank you for having us Ballater. Until next time!

Bells ring out as Hunchback brings live theatre back to Aberdeen

Hunchback Cast Photo

It Disney get any better than the Hunchback Of Notre Dame leading the return of live theatre in the north-east after the Christmas Covid lockdown on venues.

Not only will the show bring the lights back up at Aberdeen Arts Centre on Tuesday January 25, it is the Scottish premiere of the amateur version of the musical and also a belated 30th-anniversary production for Phoenix Theatre.

Jonnie Milne, who will be playing the iconic role of Quasimodo, said the whole cast and team were delighted to be getting back on stage for a host of reasons.

“I think it’s definitely an honour to be ushering theatre back to the Granite City,” he said.

“It will also be our first show in two years, it’s the Scottish amateur premiere of The Hunchback Of Notre Dame and this is technically our delayed 30th anniversary production.”

Phoenix joins the #WeMakeEvents campaign

At Phoenix Theatre and Phoenix Youth Theatre, we know we’re not alone in desperately wanting to be back on stage as soon as we can.

Four of our members were able to do that recently, but in front of an eerily silent and empty auditorium at Aberdeen’s Tivoli Theatre, to make the following video with Granite City Events for the national #WeMakeEvents campaign.

It’s been eight long months since we last performed in front of a packed Aberdeen audience and we’re looking forward to the day when we get to see those smiling faces once again.

A message of support for the Phoenix Family

On the eve of what would have been the opening night of Phoenix Youth's 'Oliver!' at Aberdeen Arts Centre, we are sending a message of hope and support to all of our pupils, as they continue to cope with the Coronavirus pandemic.

These words come from across the Phoenix Family and some famous faces too, as we are all in this together.
